Online – Writing Effective Social Narratives – based on Social Stories™ Principles – Tuesday 19th May 9am-12 midday
£90.00
Social Narratives are a powerful way to build understanding, reduce anxiety, and support autistic children and young people to navigate the social world with greater confidence. Rooted in the principles and criteria of Carol Gray’s Social Stories™, these narratives follow a structured, evidence-informed approach that prioritises clarity, respect, and true understanding over compliance.
In this practical and engaging 3-hour course, you will learn how to write high-quality Social Narratives that genuinely work. We will explore how to gather the right information by understanding the child’s perspective, how to carefully craft descriptive, perspective and coaching sentences, and how to structure a narrative so it is accurate, meaningful and affirming. You will also learn how to add simple, effective visuals to support understanding and create a dual-coded resource that children can access independently.
Throughout the session, live examples will be written and shaped in real time, with opportunities for you to contribute ideas and see the thinking process behind each decision. By the end of the course, you will feel confident in creating Social Narratives that are not only technically sound, but genuinely supportive and engaging for the children and young people you work with.
This course is ideal for teachers, SENCOs, teaching assistants, and parents who want to move beyond generic or ineffective “social stories” and instead create personalised, meaningful narratives that make a real difference.
