Online – How to Write Good Social Narratives – Mondays 17th and 24th November 3.30pm-5.30pm
£90.00
This course teaches you how to write a Social Narrative using the structure advocated by Carol Gray’s Social Stories™ (A registered trademark of Carol Gray.) This framework is not affiliated with or endorsed by Carol Gray, but is guided by the official Social Stories™ 10.4 Criteria (Gray, Faherty, Timmins & Lanou, 2023).Reachout ASC acknowledges and honours the pioneering work of Carol Gray and her collaborators in establishing these principles. You will learn how to spot an ineffective Social Story and how to collect the right information to form your Social Narrative focus. The training includes writing a narrative for a child you know, guided by Lynn.
Carol Gray’s approach is followed throughout and we explore how Social Humility (Carol Gray) and Double Empathy (Dr Damian Milton) are key foundations for any Social Narrative writing. This course will teach you how to write affirming Social Narratives that enable the autistic person to learn something helpful and useful in their lives.
We will be looking at how we can use AI to aid our Social Narrative writing.
Lynn McCann has written Social Narratives for Primary children into a book called “Stories That Explain” published by LDA. She is currently writing Social Narratives for Secondary children. A selection of her Stories that Explain have been symbolised and published by Widgit(C) Software. She has been writing individual Social Narratives with autistic children of primary and secondary ages for over 18 years.
This training is over 2 twilight sessions:
17th November – What is a Good Social Narrative and how the guidelines shape our writing. (Homework – write a Social Narrative)
24th November – Social Narratives feedback and support. How can AI help draft future narratives.
