Learning to PLAN with a Semi-Formal Curriculum – Thursday 26th February 2026, 9.30am-12pm

What does planning for a SEND Unit provision actually look like? What do the teachers and children do through the day? Freshfield Primary school has successfully set up and developed a 4 class SEND Unit for autism and communication needs over the past five years.

• You will discuss how to decide if the child needs the Equals Curriculum, look at the Equals documents, learn how to incorporate children’s EHCPs,
• Plus work with My Communication, My Play and Learning, My Independence from the Equals Curriculum,
• Discussion about the foundations of literacy, phonics and mathematical awareness for children at this level and what that looks like in practice.
• Q&A with Specialist teachers from Reachout ASC, Liverpool Speech Therapists and the staff at Freshfield School.

This course is for Head Teachers, SLT, SENCO’s and teachers to investigate the bigger picture and see what it looks like in practice.
