Kate Sarginson is a specialist teacher and SENDCO Advisor with Reachout ASC whose professional experience spans more than two decades in schools, including roles as a Primary School Deputy Head Teacher and SENDCO across specialist, secondary, primary, middle and independent settings. Kate also works as a Lecturer in Education at the University of Cumbria in Lancaster where her work focuses on issues central to inclusive practice, special educational needs and teacher development in primary education.

“Over my professional career, I have completed Doctoral level research papers on the quality of SEND content in initial teacher education and the SENDCOs role in practice change. I have also become a facilitator for Teach First delivering the brand new NPQ for SENDCOs and the NPQSL – an achievement which I am particularly proud of. Working with Professor Jonathan Glazzard from the University of Hull on a research project exploring the lived experience of Neurodiverse trainee teachers was also a particular highlight!

I find the schools I work with value my practical leadership experience, my attention to detail, my ease relating to pupils and my deep understanding of how pivotal Reachout reports can be for children contributing my specialist insight for EHCP applications, annual reviews and tribunals.  Having been a SENDCO for over 12 years in 3 very different schools I really want to do everything I can to support those in this difficult but rewarding role because I absolutely get it.”

“Kate is a pleasure to work with, she has a lovely rapport with our students and has a warming smile and caring nature. We are very lucky have her as I feel she does wonders with our young people!”

“Kate has been an invaluable support to our school and to the children with ASC in our care. She has worked closely and sensitively with teaching staff, taking the time to understand our pupils and helping us develop practical, effective strategies to meet their individual needs. Kates expertise and commitment have been especially evident in her work supporting EHCP amendments, where her guidance and detailed evidence have made a real difference for families. She has also played a crucial role in helping us secure appropriate high school placements for children with complex needs. Kates impact has been felt across the whole school, and we are extremely grateful for her dedication and professionalism.”
