Anxiety is a constant companion of many autistic children and can affect their mental health.  This course looks at the complex nature of anxiety in autistic children and young people and how we can support mental wellbeing.  Lynn draws on her and Emma's years of supporting autistic young people in schools to share some of the realities of what contributes to anxiety. We look at teaching resources that have made a positive impact on our young people and help you make personalised plans to support the autistic children you work with. We will look at lots of resources and strategies to develope emotional awarenesss and regulation including sensory, self-awareness and teaching resources.

This course is suitable for primary and secondary SENCOs, teachers, TAs and Nurture staff as well as parents and others who work with autistic people.  We welcome autistic people who would like to come on the course.  Please get in touch with us first so we can support your needs.

Relationships & Sex Education For Autistic Young People

The new statutory framework for Relationships and Sex Education comes into force in September 2020. This course will equip you to develop programmes and resources that will enable autistic and other SEND pupils to engage in this subject in ways that are accessible and meaningful for them.

For many autistic pupils, Sex and Relationship lessons are confusing, overwhelming and full of ambiguity. They may struggle with the way you explain sex and relationships, and struggle to make informed decisions, stay safe and develop good self-esteem unless information is presented in a way that makes sense to them. Autistic pupils often need a more personal and adapted approach to learning about relationships and growing up.

Who is it for:

Primary, Secondary and Special school staff.  Parents and other agencies who work with autistic children and young people.
